Most people start their business because they’re passionate about it or about the people they’re serving. But motivation and inspiration don’t always last. It can be hard to wake up and feel inspired when you’ve been working at something for a long time, maybe don’t break as much as your should, and feel like the less inspiring parts of your work are taking over. Here is how you can keep yourself engaged and restore your own inspiration!
Collect images or words that represent your business or how you want your daily life to feel. Print them, cut them out, and place them on a vision board that you can keep nearby. I love making vision boards, and I find that the process of making them and looking at them both inspires me and helps keep me motivated.
Sometimes we feel like we’re alone as a business owner. But there are lots of other people out there making resources that can inspire us. As a marketer, I love reading books and listening to podcasts on marketing and small businesses. They energize me and help me learn. Whatever you do, there are probably lots of resources out there you could explore. If your business is really niche, you can at least find books and podcasts about running a small business that could keep you inspired.
When we feel stuck, sometimes all we need is a change of scene. First, try working in a new coffee shop, renting an Air B&B and working there, or just trying the library. Sometimes a new space puts us in a better headspace too.
Don’t forget to also pursue new things in your personal life that can inspire you. Explore new hobbies and go to new places.
Burnout is common among business owners, and it can also be debilitating. When you’re so exhausted from work, it is no wonder you don’t feel inspired about it. The best way to avoid burnout is to make yourself take more frequent breaks. That includes whole weekends—for those of you who never stop working! Also, try to take short moments to celebrate too. Landed a new client? Completed a project? Got great results? Stop and appreciate it for a moment.
Self-care is essential to keep yourself inspired. You know yourself best, so choose something to improve on, whether that is healthy eating, exercising, getting enough sleep, or cutting out a bad habit.
When you’re the boss, you get to choose how you spend your time. If there are things you don’t want to do that drain your energy or make you feel negative, then that is a good sign you should outsource it. If your social media marketing makes you feel this way, we’re here to help. Let’s make social media fun again!
