Selling on Instagram: Hard Sell vs. Soft Sell

July 24, 2024

Whether it’s product posts or brand deals, hard selling is pretty obvious and in your face.

Hard selling is like that store employee who continues to follow you around the store, telling you about the sales they’re having.

The one that doesn’t leave you alone (you know how uncomfortable that gets! So don’t do that to your followers!).

Using Instagram as a hard sales tool is the best way to get yourself unfollowed.

Instead, focus on your branding and tone down the hard selling by perfecting the art of soft selling.

Make people feel connected to your brand through engaging and valuable content—then the sales will come organically!

If you need help learning how to sell on Instagram without being salesy, let me know!

FEELINGS > FEATURES

A HUGE part of soft selling is learning how to sell feelings rather than features.

Focus on the “why” rather than the “what”.

Help them envision how working with you or using your products will FEEL instead of listing off all of the features. This is wayyy more effective in making your followers actually want to buy.

Three ways you can do this RIGHT NOW in your socials:

Tap into nostalgia – think about your target audience and reference past trends, pop culture icons, and shared experiences that they can relate to

Focus on your community – create a sense of belonging with your followers, which helps to build your brand loyalty.

Make them laugh – we’re on social media to be entertained, and adding humor to the mix makes your brand more relatable and connects you to your followers.
